Close Properties

The eighty properties in the cathedral ownership which ‘circle’ the church are referred to as being in “The Cathedral Close”.

They comprise a wide range of residential and commercial buildings which are mainly of Grade 1, 2 or 2* significance.  The age of the properties vary some dating back to medieval times, for example the Vicars’ Court properties were built in the late 13^th century, and many architectural features survive.
