Training
Lincoln Cathedral Works Department has a long tradition of in-house skills training, and we seek to be a beacon for excellence.
We have developed strong links with a wide range of training providers, and in 2010 we entered into partnership with Lincolnshire County Council to provide practical training and assessment for the County Council’s Heritage Skills Centre, currently under construction in the grounds of Lincoln Castle. It is hoped that the centre will have a significant impact on skills training in Lincolnshire. This enormously exciting project has been made possible thanks to a Heritage Lottery Fund Grant.
The centre will provide local opportunities for training in a range of traditional building craft skills. The grant is also providing heritage craft training bursaries of eighteen months each, over a period of five years. We have recently appointed our second group of trainees, in stonemasonry, carpentry/joinery, glazing, heritage brickwork and leadwork, and the application process is now closed. We will be recruiting again in March 2014.
