Training

We take training very seriously.

Lincoln Cathedral Works Department has a long tradition of in-house skills training, and we seek to be a beacon for excellence.  We have developed strong links with a wide range of training providers, and in 2010 we entered into partnership with Lincolnshire County Council to provide practical training and assessment for the County Council’s Heritage Skills Centre, currently under construction in the grounds of Lincoln Castle. It is hoped that the centre will have a significant impact on skills training in Lincolnshire. This enormously exciting project has been made possible thanks to a Heritage Lottery Fund Grant.

The centre, which is scheduled to open in 2012, will provide local opportunities for training in a range of traditional building craft skills.  The grant is also providing nine training bursaries of eighteen months each, over a period of five years, in stonemasonry, carpentry/joinery and leadwork. The first three trainees started in May 2011; we will be advertising for three more in September 2012, and these bursary opportunities will be advertised on our website.

Please note that we are not yet taking enquiries or accepting CVs.
