With a musical team (not to mention an acoustic) like Lincoln's, the Cathedral has every reason to be proud of its musical scene. Whilst maintaining the daily rhythm of musical worship, we also regularly host festivals, concerts, recitals and recordings to gain exposure and promote the vibrant musical heritage of the region.

Under the directorship of Aric Prentice and Charles Harrison, the choir has gone from strength to strength, establishing a national reputation through television appearances, large-scale oratorios, demanding radio broadcasts and acclaimed CD recordings. In recent years the choir has regularly broadcast Evensong live on Radio 3 to resounding success. In addition, it has continued its annual productions of J.S. Bach's St John Passion accompanied by the Lindum Baroque orchestra. In 2011, the 75th Anniversary Concert for the Friends of Lincoln Cathedral featured two new commissions by celebrated choral composers Philip Moore and Gabriel Jackson. The choir regularly records CDs for commercial release. The latest, A Concert of Carols by Candlelight, was also commissioned by the Friends. To see a list of past recordings or make a purchase, please visit the online Cathedral shop or come and see us in person.

The Cathedral also regularly hosts a diverse range of touring choirs, soloists, organists and orchestras, such as the Swingle Singers, Delirious, Aled Jones, Hayley Westenra, the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, Dr Francis Jackson, Pontarddulais male voice choir, English Touring Opera, the Hallé orchestra and the Sixteen. Many of these musicians are drawn to Lincoln because of its generous acoustic and fine Father Willis organ, while the sheer size of the Nave means it is easy to accommodate the large audiences who flock to hear these the high-profile artists.

Below you will find a list of upcoming music events. Tickets are usually available from the Cathedral shop and the online box office, and benefactors of the Cathedral are often eligible for discounts.
