Library

The Medieval and Wren Libraries are open to the public every weekday and each Saturday from the beginning of April until the end of October.  Over the past few years we have extended our opening hours.  We would not have been able to do this without the help and support of our wonderful team of volunteers.

Library volunteers, working in pairs, act as stewards, welcoming visitors and explaining about the rare books and manuscripts on display and answering questions about the two libraries.  The current team of volunteers is made up of all kinds of people, from students in their gap year to those retired from full time employment.  Some have an interest in books, some love history and others just enjoy meeting people.

If you think you would enjoy volunteering in the library, please contact Julie Taylor the Assistant Librarian on 01522 561640 or by email on librarian@lincolncathedral.com for more information.  We will start recruiting for the 2012 season in the New Year when training will be given.  No-one is expected to know everything immediately so don’t let that put you off.  Full notes and helpful guidance are provided and new volunteers will usually be on duty with a more experienced volunteer to start with.

The story of the library is brought to life by the volunteers and we know from the comments in the Visitors’ Book that they are very much appreciated.
