The Halle visit is only three weeks away

The much loved annual visit of the Halle to Lincoln Cathedral is taking place on Saturday 12 May this year with conductor Sir Mark Elder and a fabulous programme of Borodin’s Overture Prince Igor, Mozart’s Symphony No.40,  Borodin’s Symphony No.2 and Tchaikovsky ’1812′ Overture. The majority of the stained glass in Lincoln Cathedral dates from the 19th century and quite a large number are commemorative windows celebrating the life of a dear loved one. Most of these sizable commemorative windows are vibrant and full of colour, often commanding a prominent position in the building being in direct competition with a neighbouring window in order to be seen.  But not all windows stand out by being loud and brash.

Holy Week marked the final days of Jesus’ earthly life. It began in triumph as we commemorated on Palm Sunday his entry into Jerusalem on a donkey. The mood then became sombre as we approached the crucifixion on Good Friday. Bishop Christopher reminded us though that whilst the cross seen from an earthly perspective denotes awful suffering, from a heavenly viewpoint it shines with glory. Royal Maundy

Rosemary Mason, who holds the Royal Warrant to supply nosegays to HM The Queen for the Royal Maundy Service, gave a demonstration of making nosegays together with a talk on the history of the service, the music and the Royal connections to over 170 people on Friday 2nd March 2012.
