How to get involved
THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING SUPPORTING LINCOLN CATHEDRAL.
The Cathedral has been the object of the generosity of countless people since St Hugh undertook its major re-building in the 13th century, but also before then. The result of the generosity is the Cathedral we now see. but also the fact that of the £3 million we need each year to maintain and run the Cathedral, one third comes from the giving of former generations.
This leaves a gap of £2 million every year and this is filled by people like you and me. It is why we ask our visitors to pay an entry fee; it is why we ask for your support.
As the Chapter of Lincoln Cathedral we believe that the cathedral is worth supporting, not only as an inspiration to the present generation but also in order to hand it on in good repair to succeeding generations.
We want to acknowledge the demands that our aspiration make on us:
- Worship must be of the highest possible standard with the rich choral tradition maintained at a level of excellence;
- Craft skills of the highest degree must be fostered and used on the building and its surrounds;
- The collection primarily located in the Library must be preserved and made available for use.
It also means that the Cathedral must play its part in the life of the City and County in which it is set.
The many individuals, organisations, businesses and charities that support the Cathedral share this view of the importance of one or more aspects of this wide-ranging mission. We are delighted that The Prince of Wales has accepted the Cathedral’s invitation to become Patron of our Fabric Fund for five years from November 2011.
