Visit Lincoln to enjoy the best of heritage and floral splendour this summer

“Help us to raise funds.  All profits go to the Cathedral Fabric Fund”

Between the 16th and 20thAugust 2012, Lincoln Cathedral will be transformed with thousands of blooms for its Olympic-inspired ‘Dreams of Gold’ Flower Festival. Whether visiting as a family, small group or coach-full, the festival and the City of Lincoln can guarantee a fantastic day out.

Flower power

What could be more stunning than 130 floral arrangements set against the backdrop of one of the finest gothic cathedral’s in Europe? This awe-inspiring combination will celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic games from their beginnings in ancient Greece to the modern day. Displays will include a running track in the chapter house and a swimming pool in the cloister, plus depictions of cycling, sailing and equestrian sports! If the displays inspire you, then a new feature of this year’s event will be flower arranging workshops for visitors.

Don’t take my word for it, see what our young journalists have to say.

You can see by clicking here the time lapse video by those clever people at Epix Media of how it all came together.

Plenty to enjoy

Lincoln Cathedral sits in the ‘Bailgate’ at the heart of the City’s cultural quarter. This vibrant area of Lincoln is also home to the castle and several museums and attractions. Steep Hill, named in 2012 as the ‘Best Street in Britain’, links the Bailgate to the city centre and certainly lives up to its reputation! With its boutiques and unique shops it is a delight to stroll down, although many take advantage of the City Council’s electric powered uphill/downhill link bus to make their way back to the top!
