We are committed to having an accessible Lincoln Cathedral that is open to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability.

Please read our Accessibility Statement for further details as to how we are striving to become an accessible Lincoln Cathedral.

We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website, in doing so we hope to widen our visitor offering and help more people to become involved in Lincoln Cathedral.

Our mission when planning for a new website was to endeavour to conform to level Double-A of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0.

World Wide Web Consortium guidelines help to point out the key features necessary for creating an accessible website. By making this step to conform in as many areas as possible, we hope to set a trend for future online projects to improve online offerings for a wider audience.

Browsers:

This site has been built using code compliant with W3C standards for HTML and CSS. The site displays correctly in the following browsers and using standards compliant HTML/CSS code.

Our website should display correctly in the current and previous two versions of the following browsers:

  • Firefox
  • Chrome
  • Internet Explorer
  • Safari

There are some areas of the site that require you to have JavaScript turned on to work. Please be aware of this and know we are working on alternatives for release in the future.

We are still working on:

While this website strives to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website.

The specific areas where we are currently working to achieve better accessibility are:

  • Provision of video and audio transcripts. (At the current time we have removed all video from this site to maintain a high level of clarity)
  • Alt text for images do not include information as to where the user will be taken, just what the image depicts
  • We sometimes show 3rd party content and we’re working with these suppliers to make this content accessible in the future

Accessibility is a key principle of what we set out to achieve when re-imagining our website. If you find that you are experiencing difficulty in accessing any part of this website, please contact us.
