Lincoln Cathedral has confirmed that a man has been injured after falling while climbing up the outside of the central tower.
The incident occurred shortly after midday on Wednesday 20 July. The man was treated on site by the emergency services and has now been taken to hospital to receive the care that he needs. Lincolnshire Police have since confirmed that the man has been detained under the mental health act.
The building was closed for a short time, but has now been re-opened and staff at the Cathedral are working closely with Lincolnshire Police as they investigate the incident.
Our thoughts remain with the man involved, and the team at the Cathedral is now working to ensure the wellbeing of all staff and volunteers, and ensure everyone receives any support they may need.
As always, the Cathedral remains open for anyone who needs some time and space to reflect, who would welcome the support of our chaplains, or who would like signposting to other support services that are available.
