The Dean of Lincoln is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr William Harrison as Chapter Clerk and Administrator of Lincoln Cathedral.
The Chapter Clerk and Administrator is the senior lay member of the cathedral’s staff, responsible for the direction of operational management and administration of the cathedral within the strategic and financial framework set by Chapter. He acts as an ambassador in promoting the cathedral’s mission and values, cherishing the building and championing hospitality and welcome to all.
Since September, Will has been fulfilling the role as Interim Chapter Clerk. He has worked for the Diocese of Lincoln since 2005, most recently as Deputy Diocesan Secretary and Bishop’s press officer. Will has also been a member of the Cathedral Choir at various times over the last 21 years.
Will completed a degree in Christian Studies at Bishop Grosseteste College, Lincoln, before going on to be awarded a Master’s degree in Investigative Journalism. He spent a short time working as a verger at Southwell Minster, before moving into local journalism. He came to the Diocese of Lincoln as communications officer, and later developed his skills with a diploma in public relations. Recently, he has completed, with distinction, a Master’s Degree in Rural Estate and Land Management at Harper Adams University. Will brings particular skills in church governance, communications and asset management, as well as a great knowledge of the Cathedral.
He is married to Alex, who is in the final year of a nursing degree at the University of Lincoln, and they have two children, Chloe (8), who is a probationer in the Cathedral choir, and Daniel (6).
“I’m honoured and delighted to be appointed to the post of Chapter Clerk of Lincoln,” said Will.
“I’ve known Lincoln Cathedral since I was about eight years old, and have constantly been inspired by the building and the service it provides through worship, events and music.
“It’s a very exciting time to be joining the Cathedral in this role, with an excellent team of clergy and staff, and the development of the visitor and educational facilities as part of £16m Lincoln Cathedral Connected project.”
The Dean of Lincoln, the Very Revd Christine Wilson, said: “Will has been a great friend to Lincoln Cathedral over many years, and brings skills and experience which will serve us well as we seek to develop the Cathedral as a centre of welcome, hospitality and mission.”
The Venerable Mark Steadman, Interim Diocesan Secretary, said: “Will has been a faithful and long serving member of staff in Edward King House in a variety of roles. He has been highly thought of throughout his time with us and people from across the diocese will know and appreciate his wisdom, thoughtfulness and eye for detail. We will miss his many skills and qualities, but rejoice that these will now be at the disposal of the Cathedral where he will make a very fine Chapter Clerk and Administrator.”
