Lincoln Cathedral will be lit green this evening (Wednesday 24 June) to mark St John’s Day and to celebrate the work of the charity St John Ambulance.
St John Ambulance has been running as a charity for more than 900 years, and has a proud history of saving lives and caring for communities in Lincolnshire and beyond.
The organisation celebrates St John’s Day every year, and it is usually a time to come together with gatherings which combining the Order of St John’s historical past with a contemporary message, relevant to members of the St John Ambulance today.
However, this year, because of continuing COVID-19 restrictions, such events are not possible, so St John Ambulance has found a number of different ways to mark the occasion, to raise awareness of the charity and to thank its staff and volunteers for their skill and dedication.
As well as lighting the Cathedral in green, the organisation has organised a virtual afternoon tea, which is open to all. St John Ambulance volunteers and the public are encouraged to invite family, friends and colleagues to an afternoon tea Zoom party, come together over a cuppa and help to raise funds for the St John Emergency Appeal.
