Description

A misericord (sometimes named a Mercy Seat, like the Biblical object) is a small wooden shelf on the underside of a folding seat in a church, installed to provide a degree of comfort to a person who must stand during long periods of prayer.

Like all of our misericords, the Bird Pecking Grapes is taken from a medieval carving on the misericord seats in St. Hugh’s Choir in Lincoln Cathedral.  The mould has been taken directly from the original carving to ensure every detail is captured.  As lifting the seats up and down is no longer encouraged, this is a rare chance to see the incredible detail in the medieval carvings.

This replica is made in the UK using resin composite and has been colour stained to look as though it’s made of wood.

The plaque is approx. 11cm x 10cm, and a ring is attached to the back in order for it to be displayed.
