Creation of a cope

At his installation as Dean of Lincoln on Saturday 14 September 2024, The Very Revd Dr Simon Jones wore his Chapter Cope.
These stunning vestments are worn to special services be the residentiary canons of the Cathedral. The hood on the back of each one features an image depicting the particular role of the wearer – in the case of the Dean, the Cathedral Seal.

They are created by the talented members of the Cathedral’s Needlework Guild. All volunteers, the members of the guild work on copes, stoles, altar fronts among much else. All work is completed by hand, to the highest standards of both quality and detail.

While creating Simon’s Chapter Cope the Needlework Guild created a photostory, documenting the stages of construction:
