In the early part of the twentieth century the West front and Towers were on the point of imminent collapse following decades of underfunded and incomplete repairs that in themselves were damaging the stonework of the Cathedral.
This exhibition is about four men – a brilliant engineer, a sensitive architect, an exceptional clerk of works and a Dean whose unwavering commitment ensured the completion of the Special Repairs. See their passion, frustrations and successes expressed in the letters they wrote to each other.
All exhibits in the visitor centre are included with your Cathedral admission.
