Leaving a gift in your Will
For many people, leaving a gift in their Will is the ideal way for them to show their support for causes that have meaning for them after providing for family and friends. By leaving a gift in your Will, you too could help future generations be inspired by Lincoln Cathedral.
Why should I remember Lincoln Cathedral in my Will?
Lincoln Cathedral is a place that means a great deal to so many people for a wide range of different reasons. Leaving a gift in your will of the easiest way to support the Cathedral as it means you can experience the benefits of your gift while you are alive, but only make the donation from your estate when you have died.
Everyone who notifies us of inclusion in their will and provides an extract of their Will for our records is offered a complimentary Patron membership. This enables you to engage with the Cathedral in your lifetime and know that you are helping to support a charity after you die.

How much should I leave?
Legacy gifts are always a personal expression so it’s completely up to you, and gifts of any size are always gratefully received. The simplest way to leave a gift is as a residuary share of your estate. This way, the value and intent of your gift is maintained as the years go by from the time of writing your Will, to when the gift is finally given.
If you choose to leave 10% of your estate to charities (which we hope will include the Lincoln Cathedral), you will also pay a reduced rate of inheritance tax (currently 36% rather than 40%) on your entire estate above the threshold. This makes charitable giving though your Will far more tax efficient.
Who should I leave my gift to?
We always prefer gifts to be left to Lincoln Cathedral so that they can be applied where the need is greatest at the time, but we also understand that many people like to know that their legacy gift is going to an area of the Cathedral that means something to them.
If you would prefer to target your donation to wherever the need is greatest at the time, please leave your gift to Lincoln Cathedral.
