On Saturday 19 August Lincoln Cathedral will be lit in the colours of the rainbow to coincide with the Pride events taking place in the city that day.
We are committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion at every level of our life, and creating a space where everyone – worshippers, volunteers, staff, visitors and members of the local community – feels welcome and valued. Lighting the Cathedral is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the unique combination of gifts of every individual.
Earlier this year, the Bishops of the Church of England apologised to LGBTQI+ people for the ways in which the Church of England has treated them. They said: ‘For the times we have rejected or excluded you, and those you love, we are deeply sorry . . . . We affirm, publicly and unequivocally, that LGBTQI+ people are welcome and valued: we are all children of God’. Lincoln Cathedral endorses this apology and the commitment to welcome and value all.
As the mother church of the Diocese of Lincoln, the Cathedral is committed to serving all Church communities who look to us as a focus for unity, recognising that while their members may hold a variety of views on matters such as same-sex relationships, we are united in our commitment to respect all people as God’s children.
