Lincoln Cathedral is delighted to announce that its full choir will return for Choral Evensong this Friday, 18 September.
It will be the first time that the full choir has sung together since the Cathedral was forced to close in March.
Aric Prentice, Director of Music at Lincoln Cathedral said that the return of the choir was a source of great joy to all in the Cathedral community, “We are so glad to be back in the Cathedral making music again. Despite such a long break from singing our adults and children are still sounding terrific and our rehearsals in the last fortnight have gone really well. It’ll be great to be adding two weekday Evensongs to our weekly schedule along with our Sunday morning worship. Please do join us either in person or online.”
Music is one of the foundations of the worshipping life at Lincoln Cathedral and its tradition of choral excellence plays an important part in the ministry of the Cathedral.
The service of Evensong is much loved and a peaceful period of prayer and contemplation at the end of the day. Its return is another welcome step in the Cathedral’s return to normality after lockdown.
Lincoln Cathedral Choir comprises boys and girls from various schools in Lincolnshire, plus altos, tenors and basses. The choristers have been rehearsing since the start of the new academic year and there is great enthusiasm and excitement that regular singing in the Cathedral can resume.
From Friday 18 September Choral evensong will take place every Tuesday and Friday with evening prayer continuing on other days of the week.
All are warmly invited to come and experience the services for themselves. Social distancing measures remain in place and face coverings must be worn in all areas of the Cathedral.
