A cheque was presented to the International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) following the success of the RAF100 Dinner at Lincoln Cathedral.
Veterans and local businesses were included in the 350 guests who attended the black tie dinner and enjoyed an evening of fine dining and entertainment in stunning surroundings. Guests were wowed by a replica spitfire in the Nave of Lincoln Cathedral and gave generously throughout the evening. Auction pieces and a percentage of the ticket sales from the event have been donated by the Cathedral to the IBCC.
A poppy stone carved and painted by the Cathedral’s team of highly skilled stonemasons was one of the auction items and the full amount made from this piece is part of the £2,000 donated to IBCC. The piece was made from stone taken from the Cathedral Quarry in North Lincoln.
The replica spitfire in the Nave was made possible by the generous support of Eastern Airways and provided a fitting tribute to those who flew for their country in the Battle of Britain and other conflicts.
The Dean of Lincoln, the Very Reverend Christine Wilson said: “My colleagues and I at the Cathedral are absolutely delighted to be able to present this cheque for £2,000 to support the International Bomber Command Centre from the proceeds of the highly enjoyable RAF 100 dinner. We have a long and warm relationship with the RAF and were pleased to be able to support them in this memorable centenary year.”
