Lincoln Cathedral has been awarded the “Good to Go” mark by Visit Britain.
The UK-wide industry standard and consumer mark demonstrates to visitors that an organisation is following government and public health guidance in relation to COVID-19. It confirms that a risk assessment and specific processes are in place to safely open to the public.
The Revd Canon John Patrick, Subdean of Lincoln, said he was delighted that the Cathedral had achieved the certification. “Over the last four months we have wanted nothing more than to welcome everyone back into Lincoln Cathedral. During that time, the whole team have been working hard to ensure that we can do so safely and that the Cathedral is a place of peace, sanctuary and comfort.
“The ‘Good To Go’ award signals to anyone wishing to visit, whether for individual prayer, worship or to take in the beauty of this magnificent building, that they can be confident that we are taking every opportunity possible to ensure their wellbeing.”
The Cathedral team continue to review practices and procedures and update them in accordance with nationally recognised best practice. Measures in place at the Cathedral to limit the spread of COVID-19 include a one-way system, hand sanitiser stations throughout the building, and an enhanced cleaning regime. There is also a limit on the number of people that can visit at any one time.
The Cathedral re-opened for individual prayer on 15 June, and services began again on 5 July. Plans are currently being finalised for re-opening to tourists and an announcement about the opening date for general visits is expected in the coming days.
