On July 2nd two teams of 8 young bell ringers will be making their way by train to London to take part in a national striking competition for ringers under the age of 19 years. 24 teams from around the country will be judged on how well they ring the bells in a test piece. A cup, presented by the Whitechapel bellfounders, will be presented to the band of ringers judged to have struck their bells the most accurately. The Lincolnshire teams, called the Poachers and the Gamekeepers, have been practising for some months. During their exciting day out they will have the opportunity to ring on the famous Bow Bells, and to go up to see St Paul’s Cathedral bells and ringing room.
