The spectacular sound and light show ‘Science’ by Luxmuralis will be coming to Lincoln Cathedral in March 2024.

The installation will see the cathedral transformed into a fully immersive artwork exploring the contributions of science to human understanding of the physical world around us.

Tickets for the much-anticipated show will go on sale on Monday 23 October.

The creative light show will be enhanced by a bespoke soundscape created by David Harper and the multi-sensory experience will transport visitors through elements, molecules, DNA, and the greatest discoveries of humanity, all projected onto the historic walls of the Cathedral.

Luxmuralis, the creative collective behind the light and sound show, first performed their work at Lincoln Cathedral in February 2023; their ‘Life’ show was the most successful event ever hosted at the Cathedral with more than 10,000 attending over four days. Following an outpouring of positive public feedback and calls for the return of a sound and light show, ‘Science’ is expected to be even more popular.

Samantha Mellows, Director of Visitor Experience and Enterprise at Lincoln Cathedral said she hoped the light show would help people to see the world a little differently, “We’re used to seeing the architectural beauty of the Cathedral, and as it is transformed before our eyes, it gives us an opportunity to stop, reflect and take some time to look at the world from a different perspective.

“The last time we hosted a light show in the cathedral, the atmosphere was amazing; it was fantastic to see so many people of all ages, backgrounds and interests coming together to experience a shared moment of awe and wonder, and we can’t wait to do that again as we explore the impact of science on all of our lives.

Science by Luxmuralis will run from Tuesday 12 to Saturday 16 March 2024, with several performances per evening. Booking is essential, tickets go on sale on Monday 23 October 2023 on the Cathedral’s website.
